Enrichment
Enrichment
This is my tenth year with the Wenatchee School District and my seventh year as an Enrichment Specialist. I have always enjoyed the challenges and rewards of teaching, and working in the Enrichment field has deepened and magnified the joy! Our students show such potential and energy that it is an honor to nurture their talent, creativity and task commitment.
I serve students in three main areas; Literacy (Newsroom), Visual/Spatial Skills (Studio) and Math. I am able to also offer additional classes based on student talent and/or interest such as literature circles, poetry, Beauty of Bronze, figurative language, environment, nutrition .
Students in math and literature classes will be provided with opportunities to continue their classroom learning but at a faster pace and deeper level of complexity. As an Enrichment Specialist, I work with the classroom teachers in professional learning communities to monitor and nurture each child’s development and support areas studied in the classroom. Students attending any enrichment classes will take home letters explaining the content and goals of the class.
Spring brings with it a popular unit of study for Newsroom students ~ Columbia and John Newbery Art Museums! Our Newsroom students will serve as museum docents for these events.
The important dates to note for our evening events are:
Columbia Art Museum Monday, June 1 6:30 PM
John Newbery Art Museum Wednesday, June 3 6:30 PM
Working with our wonderful art teachers, we have selected master artists and a print of their work to investigate and share. Classrooms, by grade, have learned a specific art element/style of the artist and created a work of art that demonstrates this understanding. Our docents will research the artist and his/her contribution to the art world and prepare and deliver a short informational presentation to classrooms during the day and parents and community members in the evening as they tour the museum (hallways). The evening will also include a performance by our Strings Ensemble at each school.. There may very well be other surprises in store those evenings! Be sure to mark your calendar We look forward to seeing you!
Studio students have been given several choices and at Newbery have decided to persue script writing as they develop Reader’s Theater presentations. Columbia students are working along similar lines with oral presentations and design.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at your child’s school, at the Enrichment Office 662-9047 or, the best option, is through my e-mail. Your partnership in your child’s school experience is important to me.
