MISSION
STATEMENT:
Our mission statement as volunteers
is to assist personnel in educating our children
through:
- Increasing volunteerism of
parent and community members in our school.
- Returning teacher planning time
to staff by providing assistance in preparing materials
and assisting in classrooms.
- Fostering a greater sense of
community within our building.
- Involving more parents and
community members in the educational process.
Services That School Volunteers
May Perform:
Assistant in the
Classroom:
correct papers, provide brief
drill and practice on a specific skill, prepare displays and
bulletin boards, work with students on individualized
programs, organize shelves, files, or work area, help set up
for activity, collect resource materials for various units
for students, help with one-day testing, and do other tasks
as defined by the teacher.
Assistant in the Library:
shelve and file library materials,
monitor late books,
assist with general circulation of library materials, assist with accelerated
reader program, help students with research projects, and other
tasks as defined by the
librarian.
Assistance with Special
Interests and Activities: Help with special projects
such as practicing vocabulary with non-English speaking
students, assist students with computers, assist with music
programs and assemblies, be a resource speaker on a special
topic or your career field, grocery shop, set up for room
parties, run an errand, or seek donations from local
business. Assist nurse with health screenings, assist
photographers on picture days.
Volunteer Tutors: Volunteers
in this area work on a one-to-one basis with students. Their
efforts provide essential services to students who need
additional attention for a variety of reasons. Students who
need extra practice, drill, and reinforcement may be
assigned to a volunteer tutor. Some students who are working
at advanced levels may also work with volunteer tutors using
challenging and enriching materials. Students who could
benefit from additional personal attention and socialization
are appropriate students with whom a volunteer tutor might
work.
Work Room Assistants:
Volunteers can copy materials for teachers, bind materials
with binding machine, laminate items, use die-cut machine,
or collate books and packets. This is an extremely important
job as this will give teachers more time to plan and
teach.
